''Today in AIM with nick he mentioned that he put the site on a search engine, that means for those of you that aren't that fast soon we'll be rolling in members. Bad news: it will take 2 weeks to a couple of months for it to get on there so don't party just yet.
I will have this put on board news but it says I'm not a mod for some reason

You're a mod, but only moderators of that board can post announcements. I'd rather have this as a free topic, anyway.
I need to make some corrections to what I have said. At the search engine center, it says it should take only 3 weeks or less. If not, I can resend it. Then it will be listed at dmoz.org. I'm not really sure if it is that great or not, but it could be. After that it may take 2 weeks to several months to get it on AOL , DirectHit, HotBot, Google, Lycos, Netscape Search, etc. So it may take a while, but hold on. It probably will help the boards.
If there is another search engine that isn't part of that network, I plan on trying it this week. If possible it could get me visitors before dmoz does. I'm going to try Yahoo or MSN. Thank you for reading.

I've found much disappointment in dmoz.org. They haven't really gotten me added within 2 weeks, and it's almost 3. Soon I will e-mail one of their editors, and ask them the situation.
Unfortunately, I also heard it doesn't help much. So this really isn't going to work after all...To bad.

Like you said, it could take weeks or up to months. Its only been 2 or 3 weeks, you gotta give them more time to do that. My website wasn't added until about 2 months. And it took nearly 5-6 months to get on most of the major seach engines (AOL, Yahoo, Lycos, etc). You gotta be patient with it.

I have some better news. Instead of waiting longer for dmoz.com, I am submitted this forum to Google. Google will probably faster because it is an automated search engine, and then I'll get many hits. They also said I can send it many times, and they won't get mad.

BTW, I submitted RPGP to a vB search engine recently, so maybe that'll get us hits similar to how Pro-boards does it...

I don't think ProBoards has a search engine. Maybe you are thinking of something else. There is a support forum and that's where some of the people from here come...
We need to get on more search engines. At least we are on Google now, 9 to go. I'm still joining topsites to get more traffic, too.

Don't rely on dmoz or any other search engine because they are way too slow. It looks like Google isn't helping much anyway, so that means that anything else won't work either.

And this alliance thing is way too slow. This should get us more members but it isn't.

We were supposed to form it today, but K_Kid wasn't able to respond to my AIM. But that will probably be more useful than being on another search engine. The thing is that you can't rely on search engine, because they are way too slow.

One thing I learned about the search engines and getting traffic is that nothing works. A lot of it depends on some luck, other is just patience. There is no "real" way that will get us enough traffic to last.
